Media for young plants???

I have allways the some question in mind : what is the best growing media for cycads?
What kind of media do you use?
I did a mix at egal part of horti peat, pouzzolane (a kind of lava gravel) and our local soil. Some species grown well with this mix as C. panzhihuaensis other not.
